It’s Not as Sunny this Season in Philadelphia

By Kendra Beltran

I remember when It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia came out. I was excited for the show before it, Starved. Luckily I stayed on FX that night to witness Sunny. It was offensive, raunchy and endearing and well, Starved was soon canceled. Over the past five seasons the show has grown into a cult classic that will be fondly remembered by its legions of fans as one of the crudest shows to ever hit TV. But some, many, haven’t been impressed by Sunny’s sixth season…me being one of them. Could the popularity be going to their heads like a pretty girl during prom season?

This season’s been hit or miss every week. Some story lines felt forced and when you look up the stats, the Gang’s been letting outsiders do a lot of the writing. I suggest the cast stop participating in box office flops and get back to making Sunny stand out because right now The League is kicking ass in the LMAO department.

The weakest episodes were the couple at the start involving Dennis’ marriage and subsequent divorce. Sunny usually follows through with plots from week to week, but blatantly having a “to be continued” formula was not just odd, it was unnecessary. As the season winds down to the final few, let’s hope they can go out on a high instead of jumping the shark.

Despite all the nice tries, the Gang has managed to produce some laughs. Top episodes being “Mac and Charlie: White Trash” and “Dee Reynolds: Shaping America’s Youth,” and the return of some reoccurring roles; the McPolyes and Rickety Cricket.

Sweet Dee’s real life pregnancy had to be taken into consideration and then brought into the show with a hilarious Halloween episode involving an ostrich. One can only assume once she pops the Waitress or higher authorities takes the kid away. Anyone who’s seen the trails and tribulations of “Dumpster Baby” knows that.

So let’s recap…the Gang needs to start writing more and recapture the magic Sunny started with, keep the McPoyles coming and just remember, Drew Barrymore romantic comedies post-2005, are not the best business plan.
