‘Bob’s Burgers’ off to Ballsy Beginning

By Kendra Beltran

It seems the only way to get away with anything on TV is to be 2D. Autism, child molester burgers and itchy groins were just some of the noteworthy points on the premiere of FOX’s latest member of their Sunday night Animation Domination, Bob’s Burger. Conceived by Loren Bouchard who is loved and known by fans of Dr. Katz, Home Movies and Lucy: The Daughter of the Devil, so it’s no surprise almost every line caused either a laugh or an OMG.

Bob and his family run an off-again, on-again burger joint. If the title didn’t give it away, you’re welcome. It’s a cliché sitcom family set up of a dopey dad, wife and three kids but if it isn’t broke why fix it, right?

The first episode was enough to keep me tuning in through the spring. An overused forgotten anniversary plot with a cannibalism twist that threatened to shut Bob’s doors could have given South Park some heavy competition as TV’s most ballsy toon.

Ballsy indeed and with lines like, “Why do I have to get molested,” Bob’s going to fit in just fine in their new home. Nestled in between The Simpsons and Family Guy, one of which has lost its edge and another who has a formula that must work if it’s gotten two similar shows just like it (yeah Seth MacFarlane…I’m on to you).

But while is Bob’s in the only primetime spot it can flourish in, FOX is a new show sniper. FOX learned their lesson when they gave Family Guy the ax, but can they give a chance to a show that isn’t Family Guy version, what are we on? Version 4.0? Bouchard has the fan base to get the viewers, but only time will tell if Bob’s Burger becomes a casualty of FOX and finds a new address on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim.

Bob said it best on their premiere, about there being a “line between entertaining and annoying.” For me Bob’s never crossed over into annoying but honestly if you’re easily offended don’t tune it. But for us hilarious inclined folks who have sense of humors, pull up some chairs, grab the ketchup and fill up on Bob’s Burger Sunday nights on FOX.
